Farrer or Eddison Park Nature Play playgrounds were introduced in the last post and riding there is discussed here. Farrer is surrounded by other suburbs and a great place for a playground. Woden town centre is tricky with kids and an island to itself.
Farrer Nature Play is a good cycling destination.
Canberra.bike recommends Komoot for cycle navigation in Canberra.
Farrer Nature Play
Farrer Nature Play is well located. The shops are on one side and the primary school on the other. Location is important for a playground, as it will be used mostly by those people living close to it. Farrer has a good off-road bike path along the length of the suburb on Yamba Drive and Athllon Drive. Farrer has concrete paths on the verge of many streets but does not have bike paths leading to the school, park, and shops, which is so typical of modern suburbs such as Coombs, Wright and the Gungahlin.
Eddison Park Nature Play
Woden has a quite good cycling infrastructure but is not particularly direct to ride anywhere. The lack of bridges over the many major roads forces the cyclist to ride around and seek a safe place to cross the roads. This makes Woden a poor destination for riding with children. The cycling infrastructure in the town centre of Woden is finally being built, so that next year we may be able to ride to shops on protected off-road bike paths.
Eddison Park Nature Play lies in the middle of Woden. There are good connections to adjacent suburbs in the east such as Hughes and Garran (1km distant), and those to the south such as O’Malley, Mawson and Pearce (up to 3km distant) with bike paths along Yarralumla Creek and Yamba Drive.
