The preparation for the 2022 Federal Election today has started with Labor´s Special Platform Conference 2021 and includes the release of the National Platform document. What does it have to say about cycling?
The National Platform includes over a hundred points. Here are those relevant to cycling. It is not much. The Greens did not have a lot about cycling and neither does Labor.
ALP National Platform – Final Draft, Chapter 1: Building Australia’s Prosperity. Labor´s Special Platform Conference 2021
“ALP NATIONAL PLATFORM – FINAL DRAFT
CHAPTER 1: BUILDING AUSTRALIA’S PROSPERITY
- Labor understands the health and environmental benefits of active transport options, including cycling and walking, and will build these into all infrastructure project planning.
- Labor recognises that modern Australian intra-city and inter-city public transport networks are made up of trips using buses, trains, ferries, on demand transport, and active travel. Labor will work with state governments to increase use of all public transport and active travel modes.
- Labor will develop a long-term road safety strategy dedicated to reducing deaths and serious injuries on our roads. This will include measures to lower the accident rates in passenger and road freight industries by tackling dangerous contracting practices in transport supply chains.”
