Riding the western slopes of Mount Stromlo. A gravel ride from Denman Prospect shops, to Stromlo Forest and across its western slopes. The route winds its way over hills and across creeks, with uninterrupted views of the Murrumbidgee Valley and the Brindabella Range. The ride is 25.7 km, a 500 m rise, hilly, and with no locked gates. A mountain bike is recommended.
Black Mountain forest, close to Civic, is rarely explored. The north and west slopes of the mountain offer excellent cycling on formed vehicle trails. Beautiful walking trails crisscross the mountain.
Aranda hill is a critical cycling link in Canberra. Everything south of Belconnen is best reached over Aranda hill. The official name for this Active Travel Route is “CBR Cycle Route C5 Belconnen – Tuggeranong via Weston Creek”. The vast majority of this route was built before 1988.
